Auroras light up Alaska Veterans Memorial in Denali State Park

The “Memorial Lights” Experience

Auroras light up the Alaska Veterans Memorial near midnight on January 30, 2022. Located along the Parks Highway at Milepost 147, this scenic pullout is near Byers Lake in Denali State Park and was constructed in 1983.

Set in a grove of trees with a view of Denali, the memorial consists of five 20-foot-tall concrete panels honoring Alaska veterans who served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corp & Coast Guard along with the Alaska National Guard, Merchant Marine and Alaskans who were awarded the Medal of Honor. A plaque at the entrance to the memorial reads:

“We dedicate this quiet place to the remembrance of the veterans of Alaska who have served their country at home and throughout the world. We honor their heroism and dedication.”

To ALL of America’s fallen & living Heroes and Heroines, we salute you!
