Blood Moon

A blood moon (total lunar eclipse) appears as a bright orange dot alongside colorful aurora borealis over Denali National Park, Alaska at 11 pm on March 13, 2025.

The “Blood Moon” Experience

The total eclipse of the moon I witnessed on March 13, 2025 in Denali National Park, Alaska, was nothing short of ahhhmazing! During maximum totality, the blood moon showed up as a little orange dot on the right side of this photograph and deepened the whole mood & color scheme of this moonlit night for one sublime hour of time

Lured into Denali's taiga forest, my heart was beating as I punched through the snow in search of some inviting trees. I felt the alignment come together as I leaned into some spruce branches, took a deep breath, then composed in the calm. Rich hues of the blood moon doubled with a colorful aurora outburst was one of the most mystical scenes I have ever experienced and I was totally absorbed for the entire hour of totality.
