Heart of Alaska

The “Heart of Alaska” Experience

Two lovely aurora curtains meld together into the shape of a heart as they dance through the stars near Glennallen, Alaska on August 30, 2024 at 2:30 am. Adding to the celestial field, a late rising crescent moon glows like a beacon near the bottom while the bright planets of Jupiter & Mars come up to the right.

I set up my tripod and framed this image at the beginning of the night in hopes of preserving something special flowing through this window in the trees. You just never know what you're going to get when photographing the ever-changing northern lights and, in this case, I got my heart’s desire.
