The “Otherworldly” Experience
I felt like I had drifted into another world when Alaska’s early evening sky lit up with colorful brushstrokes of light and Jupiter ascended the Chugach Mountains in October, 2024, the month of red auroras. The mesmerizing reflection in the Knik River below and the allure of the island-like spruce-tipped rock outcrop added to this otherworldly sensation.
The bright light from Jupiter, a planet with 2-1/2 times the mass of all the other planets in our Solar System combined, reflected like a diamond dancing on the water. By dawn, the river was turning slushy which made me very appreciative that I had caught this painterly rendition of nature's artwork before freeze-up.
